Junk in the Trunk: 1896 Football Photograph

This week’s junk in the trunk is brought to you by a squadron of very dapper athletes, football players to be exact! Football as we know it today, is definitely an American past time and with the 4th of July coming up I find myself pondering  some of the things that make America so American. Tossing around the ol’ pigskin is one great way to spend your afternoon pre-4th of July bbq, if you ask me! Ah, the nostalgia of it all…makes me want to kick back and watch “The Sandlot”, you’re killin’ me smalls!! Ok, wrong sport, but definitely fits into the “nostalgic summer” category. Right along with road trips, independence day,  lazy days by the dock, and ice cold lemonade! This stoic photograph dates back quite a ways, all the way back to 1896.

If this was all their padding, these guys must have been pretty rugged manly men! Almost reminds me of what the football team at Hogwarts could have looked like lol! Team Griffendor, of course…wow, did I just say that out loud??

The frame is sweet! It has so much character and detail, with a more masculine woodsy looking portion, and a scrolled Victorian inner frame. Do I sense a recurring theme with the masculine/femenine thing?

What’s on your mind with the 4th coming right around the corner? Any fun summer icons that inspire you??
