Junk in the Trunk: French Baskets

Hello all! My junk in the trunk treasure this week comes to us all the way from the city of light…France! For your viewing pleasure I present to you a pair of the most lovely, rustic french baskets you could ever hope to find! As I sit reveling in the character and beauty of these baskets, I find myself daydreaming to a far away countryside retreat. I find myself in another world…
Anticipation grows as we round bend after bend of painted orchards and poplar trees, lush green grass beckoning us to come and sit awhile.
We find our spot, kick our shoes off, and lay our blanket out amongst the heavy boughs of apple trees overlooking a small pond, water radiantly reflecting the fiery hues of an Indian summer sunset.
After breathing in that fresh country air, there is only one thing left to do, grab our picnic baskets and enjoy the bounty of the season….a lazy fall afternoon…

And that’s where my baskets come into the picture, don’t you think?

These baskets would be the scene stealer, I think.

I love the way they have been lovingly mended over time. Worn twine binds any perfect imperfections.

And who, other than the French, would come up with such an idea as to outfit a picnic basket with the most intriguing and beautiful frock?

Not just any buttons would do, no these hand-sewn buttons must be made out of something worthy…what other than bone?

And under the garment, even more beauty!

The closure of choice…a forged steel dowel. Is there any other way?

Stay tuned…I was so inspired by my earlier day dreams I think I just might have to make them become a reality. Will you come along for the journey?
