Junk in the Trunk: Hand-crank Doorbell

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend! While most people were Easter egg hunting, I was hunting too.. but treasure hunting!  I was on duty, working hard to bring  you this week’s junk in the trunk. Another unique piece I have never seen before, this week’s treasure is an old crusty twist crank doorbell! Another amazingly detailed, beautiful piece of fully functional home decor. Back in the day, one would mount the crank portion outside their door, and when someone came to bring tea and crumpets or a cup of sugar, an extra egg, they would just give the knob a little twist and voila! The bell portion mounted inside the house would make a resounding “brrrriiinngg, brrrriinnnggg“. As I was taking pictures for you this week my mind got to thinking of how exciting it will be for us to fill our “someday” farmhouse with all these little special touches. I just love the idea of running barefoot to the front door on a lazy Sunday afternoon after my little hand-crank doorbell alerts me of neighbors stopping by for lemonade on the porch. Ah, a girl can dream, right? So, I’m curious, if you could set aside one salvaged piece for your home, what would it be? Post your choice in my comments or on my facebook page. I also set up a fun poll on my Facebook page! Can’t wait to hear what you would pick!

Did you guys find any scores this weekend? Send your “Junk in the Trunk” find to me at Lindsea@houseofharvest.com. You might just see it here one day!
