Junk in the Trunk: Music Box Mechanism

Hey everyone! I am so proud to announce this week’s junk in the trunk! Mostly because this one was entirely the prowess of my picking prince, my hubby, Danny! I’m not sure how he feels about that nickname, but I find it quite perfect lol.
It’s funny, I can still remember when we first started enjoying collecting, we were (and still are) so excited for the thrill of the hunt! Danny would eagerly bring me something he found, and in my mind I LOVED that he was so passionate for finding unique items, but I have to admit, I would be sending up little prayers “Lord, please let me actually like what he found”! Very early on when I was more crafty in my business I remember Danny found some plastic duck decoys, and I thought “WOW HONEY….ummm…they’re…unique…never seen anything quite like em’…hmmm.” I made the best of it and spray painted them white with a black ring around the neck. I think that was the most potential they ever had to be cool. Haha, sorry sweetie! ;D But now we have both honed our taste to go after things we really love. And LOVE is how I feel about what Danny found this time! In fact, this might be one of my most favorite things he has ever found. And it’s so outside the box…literally…outside the “music” box…

Check out this amazing collection of music box mechanisms. Ah, they totally feed my hunger for something sweet and strong! I like to keep them in a silver-plated bowl on our coffee table so people can twist them up and listen to a tune to brighten up their day.
Listen to this little song. I love it because it has a little bit of an eerie vibe to it. Does anyone recognize this song? I have never heard it. It’s so neat, when you put the music box down on wood it reverberates off the wood and gets louder.

There is something magical about twisting it up and watching the little propeller start spinning and the picks pinging off each note. It’s especially cool when the picks are broken….I don’t know why….just sounds cool and unexpected and makes your imagination dance.

I must say, I am pretty proud of my man on this one. There must be people out there who think I’m pretty strange…most women would want some flowers or a box of chocolates, but bring me home a rusty pile of music box parts and I’m a happy girl!
Until next time, happy hunting!
